I posted this in the Neighborhood but I thought it might need to be posted here . . . .

Becky's Country Corner store at the corner of White Oak (Cornwallis) and Hwy. 42 is closing due to the owner's retiring. This afternoon everything was 25% off. They have great gifts, decorative flags and awesome candles. The hours will be limited but I know they will be open next Thursday.

Ugh. I am wracking my brain and I can't picture where that is. Never heard of it.

It looks like a house from the outside. They have one of those signs you rent out in the front yard that says closing due to retirement or something like that. They usually have flags hanging out from. If you know where the car lot is that's on the opposite corner from Thurmans, then this place is directly behind them on Cornwallis.

No problem! Be sure to check out the Colonial At Home candles. They are awesome and smell so good. Becky was telling us all about them and how much better they are than Yankee Candles. I love Yankee Candles but she told me some horror stories of people who have had to repaint the inside of their house because of the LEAD that Yankee and most other brands of candles put out. The Colonial candles are all natural and they NEVER emit any black smoke or lead. The containers are crystal clear when the candle burns all the way down. None of that black mess like with other candles.

I bought some of the wax tarts that smell like Blue Spruce and they made my whole house (even upstairs) smell like a fresh cut tree. We also bought a clean linen scented candle and it smells so good.

I'm going back this week to get some for christmas presents. A good deal at 25% off.

Okay, I'm not a big candle person but I do burn some Yankee ones that smell like Christmas trees this time of the year, so hearing that they contain lead in their wicks was a little scary for me. Here is a quote found in the FAQs from Yankee's website :

    Whew!!!!

Wow . . . I stand corrected on my earlier post. Sorry to mislead anyone! I'm glad to hear that about YC because I love their fragarences. I won't be throwing the one's I have away now. But, I have to say that the Colonial At Home candles I bought yesterday smell stronger than the YC's.

My all time favorite Yankee Candle is Buttercreme. It makes me soooo hungry!

They used to have one called Fireside that smelled just like a wood fire burning. I haven't been able to find them since that one time.

I'll have to check out the one's that T4T is talking about at Cracker Barrel. I know Cracker Barrel sells Yankee Candles too.

Ok, I feel like a darned fool but I have to totally retract what I said about the Colonial brand of candles. Evidently, Becky didn't know what she was talking about. Last night when I blew out my candle I noticed that there was a lot of black stuff on the inside of the jar. So much for them being better than Yankee. I'm going to Cracker Barrel to get some of the candles that T4T has been talking about.

It IS true that the Colonial candles smell wonderful.

I'm sorry to hear they're closing, that's been a cute little store. I was sorry to see them lose the corner location when the car lot moved in but glad to see they survived moving next door.

My favorite YC for this time of year is called Christmas Eve. I LOVE it. I hate it when YC discontinues one of their scents (when it's one of my faves)... if you go to their webpage they say which ones are soon to be discontinued so you can stock up.

I don't like YC jar candles. They always turn black at the top....

    I like my aroma melts.....

That is my all time favorite! Couldn't get one last year (sold out) so I got "Balsam & Cedar" instead, which smells almost as good as Mistletoe. :)

I've found that if you use a candle-topper or candle-shade they burn alot cleaner and more evenly.
