So what should I do if someone on my laptop clicks on the "Bin Laden" link on Face Book and it starts loading and I can't shut it down. Have rebooted but still can't delete the post... Please help :/
Guidance is given at the end of the article. Basically it looks like they recommend you keep your antivirus program up-to-date. http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/osama.asp
I just want some real advice....go play elsewhere please You know..... I have posted on 4042 in the PC help forum for years & I have had some amazing & generous people (Dr Ddan for example) extend much appreciated help to me. I admire these people & this is why I chose to post here when a family member clicked on a link which caused a bit of panic. I am not stupid but I am not a computer geek either, especially as fast as things change now. With 4 kids & many computers needed for our school, we cannot afford a crash. Soooooo.... I just thougt I would reach out to my friends on 4042. I would appreciate some real info from some mature PC folks on here rather than some inmature, smartass comment from a DrDan wannabe. Hope DrDan (think I have the name wrong....been a while, but I know he is a class act!!!) is still on here. HE does not seem to have the flaw of insecurity which causes some intelligent (or those who THINK they are intelligent ) people to think that they can feel better about themselves by belittling others. How sad for you!! However, I feel confident that the real, mature PC experts will come through.
Sorry, maybe I am a bit "****y" tonight. But I depend on my computer to school my kids and my H is an amazing man, but he is not so schooled in this area.....so, I am touchy about it. I apologize for any feelings I hurt. I just want to know if my computers are at risk or if I am just worried over nothing!!
If what I said has you all wound up and on edge you may need more help than Dr.Dan can provide. Good luck none the less.
Bottom line: Look closely before you click on anything that looks odd at all. One test is to hover your cursor over the link without clicking. The browser generally will show you the address of the linked site at the bottom of your screen -- if you've never heard of it or if it has a name different from what the link text advertises, don't click. Use the same method when using a search engine, look at the link at the bottom of the site recommended paragraph for reference to where you will be sent. If you use Facebook, you need to join the Sophos Facebook page and check it daily. It lists all the scams and does a good job of staying current. On to the problem. Depending on your Browser, it should have a menu at the top titled "Tools". Click on it and chose "Clear Recent History" or "Internet Options". You want to clear all your cache and cookies and history. If it has an "All" option, use that to totally clear your browser. Then reboot the computer and try the browser again. Let me know how that goes and we'll continue.
