Need some help!! (Windows XP Pro SP2) I'm working on a PC that has wide black vertical bars in the "Add & Remove" Programs window. The bar seems to start about 5 to 6 programs down and the takes about 10 screen scroll clicks to get about 15 prog's up from the bottom. Everything inbetween is blank with a single vertical bar that moves a space to the right every page down. Sort of looks like an upside down Verrison phone signal commercial?? The black bars are around 8 characters in width. Has got me totlly baffled??? I would not even know where to start on this one. Have done diagnostics on all hardware, all is fine??
Or maybe uninstall and reinstall the video driver??? I know black lines start to occur also when the video card is about to go bad but I am not sure if that is the same thing that you are experiencing.
Good suggestion Ken, I'm going to try a Safe Mode test on it. These wide black lines only occur inside the "Add & Remove" window. Picture your going to remove a program, and as you scroll down the list ..... the names stop on the left side and a 1/4" wide vertical line starts to appear in the middle on a blank window. About 30 page downs later, names start apearing back on the left and the window is normal again. Scroll back up and the black line is there. It's just like viewing a document with 30 pages of a black line that staggers left and right on the pages. I've checked the web for similar posts but none are out there. A video or hardware prob would affect the whole screen or other app's would show similar sim's wouldn't it? I was cleaning out the systray and removing programs. This occured after getting rid of MSN Explorer and Messanger. Darn @#$%^& TRASH that MS puts on PC's. Think it's related to that. This is Win XP Pro SP2. I only removed it because the MSN Explorer kept poping up to sign on all by itself. Even after I wiped all, and I mean all, the spyware of this unit. I did a thorough clean up and double checked everthing.
