    WARNING! Rant coming!
I am one of only a few authorized to purchase HW & SW on my company's credit card. (Otherwise, must use slow PO process.) Tech support called me at 4:30P Friday about an emergency need for more memory in a production server. After much calling around, they found what was needed in stock at Tiger Direct, Capital Blvd, Raleigh.

So techie drives from Clayton to TD and calls me at home so I can give credit card number to TD clerk. But TD refuses to accept cc over the telephone. Will accept cc through their web site, but then delivery will be out of Chicago and take 3-5 days, or a whopping charge to overnite the delivery. So it's now 6:30PM and my options are, I can drive from Clayton to Capital Blvd to personally present the credit card. Or techie can use his own personal cc to pay (and he is a vendor, not an employee). Techie kindly does this. I offer to personally repay him, and hope I can get either him or myself reimbursed, as this transaction is against company policy.

This was NOT an big purchase - around $100! I have purchased $thousands over the phone from other vendors with no hassle. So from here on, I will go out of my way to ensure that I, my friends, and my company NEVER buy from Tiger Direct again.
    Whew! end of rant.

When the TD clerk refused the transaction, I'm sure you asked for the TD manager as anyone would. You left this out of the rant. What did the manager have to say about it?

I was on the phone with techie. And you're right, boiling with my indignation, I forgot to ask for manager. (Too bad TD sales rep did not suggest since he had an angry customer.) Techie had discussed transaction on the phone with ? before he made the trip to TD.

So bottom line is, yes I will try to remember to ask for manager in the future AND any purchases that I control for my company will still NOT go to TD.

The manager would have said "yes". I buy a lot from TD and Cyberock. Whenever I have a problem at TD I went to the manager and he has come through every time. A few times he has gone above and beyond. Once to the point of giving me a 60% dicount on an alternate CPU and a mobo to match what I was going to spend. Because my CPU, by phone call, was supposed to be in stock and when I got there it was not.

TD is a disount and overstock type of retail outlet. The key here is if you want cheap, you have to sacrifice service. So don't look for cheap and then expect up front service, you'll have to dig for it. If you've been buying from them for a while, and you info is in their system, they'll jump thru hoops for you.

Yes. As usual, my anger has gotten me into trouble. This simple solution came to me later in the evening. I don't think straight when I am angry, so I try hard to stay calm. (Definately, not a people person :) ).

OK, I forgive TD, since I was complicit. Now I have to get that $100 back to my dear techie.

My boss once went postal on a Tiger Direct customer service lady because they wouldn't ship something, were holding it, to his business until they personally verified over his home phone that he had ordered it. And he was counting on it for a upcoming project. They just called a left a message on his answering machine while he was away on business expecting the stuff to be delivered.

They said he had bought too much stuff lately.

my big issue with tiger direct is that basically it's a mess. the sales people aren't knowledgable and it's hit or miss on the quality of product. it's like going to wal-mart of buy a hi-fi stereo.

    we use intrex.

the closest one i'm aware of is on wake forest road (just off the beltline)

i'm sure their other locations are on the website http://intrex.com/

hubby does most of the computer shopping in out household so i'm probably not the best one to speak about their prices.
