The part is 5 to 16 dollars. It requires desoldering and soldering. Depending on the age of the laptop. You may have issues with Solder on the main board that may need to be baked. I can fix it. But it is not cheap. It has to be completely disassembled. The main board removed. Remove the old DC jack. without damaging the main board. Resoldering the new DC jack. I can put a heat gun to the main board for dry solder issues. 185.00 for widescreen 165.00 for standard screen
Where were you 2 weeks ago when I had to tear apart the wife's Gateway to put a new motherboard in it?
Takes time tho... be very careful with the laptop keyboard pins/socket.. lots of tiny screws, and takes it easy. http://www.laptoprepair101.com/laptop/2007/12/06/dc-power-jack-repair-guide/
ServerSnapper Thanks for the udpate...That's good info...The night I posted this I had all the screws in a plastic bag and the cover almost off..Soon as I cracked it open the pin fell out. It's in the bag too...UUhhh..I knew this would cost... I'm really debating if it's worth it. I have another new laptop but it's nice to have two. I got the acer back in 2006. It was time for me to buy more RAM anyway...I'm torn...I will have to think about it. I know where to find you..
Go to Intrex Computers in Raleigh, or Tiger Direct (CompuUSA or whatever they are calling themselves these days) and get an exteral USB enclosure for the laptop drive. The external enclosure shouldn't cost you more than $15. Pop the drive out of the laptop, put it in the enclosure and attach it with the USB cable to any other PC and you can access your data.
This will work if its a sata drive. Its hard to find the ide drive enclosures except on line from like Tiger Direct or Newegg. Even then they are above 30 bucks.
