Hey all~ My computer is giving me fits. Hubbie worked on it this weekend, but I'm still getting intermittent problems. The one that bothers me the most is when I go to shut down, it says "ccApp" not closing. I click to end task, but it never does. I have to push and hold the button to turn it off. It sounds like that's one of my Norton files and something may have replaced it. Does anyone know for sure? How do I fix it? BTW, system scan not showing anything. I was having problems with Word, but he fixed that, re-scanned, did a few other checks, and said he can't find anything on it, but feels like there's something "ghosting" (?). Thanks! Froggie
norton is a memory hog. dump that and try avg @ www.grisoft.com if you wish to keep norton, uninstall and reinstall it. sounds like that file may be corrupted.
I would agree with the Norton being a space hog. AVG is a much better product. You can get the free version if you are savy enough to find it on there page. Like most companies they try to bury their free products so that you will just give up and pay for the subscription. Well worth it though. Also if you haven't done a defrag on your hard drive in a while, the program might have been misplaced or it cant find it. If you defrag your drive it will put things back in order. If not do what Harley said. No, not the shotgun thing!!!!!
Most likely it is a Norton issue. This site has information plus mentions the fix is obtain an update. http://www.infopackets.com/channels.../20050929_ccapp_exe_error_during_shutdown.htm BTW, sometimes with Norton Antivirus problems, uninstalling and reinstalling will solve it also. It is a good idea to boot into Safe Mode, uninstall the program through the Control Panel (Add/Remove Programs) AND remove the Norton (Symantec) folders under Program Files. Symantec has tools on their site to help automate this process - it is quite a pain sometimes to untangle Nortons from the operating system so you can do a clean install. Good luck! 8)
Thanks Webbie and everyone! I came home today, booted up, and my OE booted right...hubbie's on vacation this week... 8) He said he had to fix Norton. Yes, he's always told me what a hog it is, but I've been loathe to change something I'm used to. Change is good, or so I hear, so I guess I might be trying some of the suggestions here. He doesn't run Norton on his PC (don't rightly know what it is), but it's never given him one ounce of a problem. Harley, gotta fix that shotgun problem. A trip to Davi's may be something to look forward to in the new year  . Froggie
