I currently work with Senior Citizens and teach them basic computer skills, using the Internet, sending email, etc. A number of my students are encouraging me to start a side business and begin making housecalls. I'm seriously considering the option, however, my knowledge is in computer software programs, NOT fixing technical issues, hardware, errors, slow computers, etc. etc. (I know a little, but I'm not willing to try and troubleshoot another persons computer for fear of being accused of causing damage myself.) So, if I take on this venture, I need to know some local (Clayton, Cleveland, Smithfield area) computer repair businesses that makes housecalls. I plan to have a few numbers on hand should I need to refer them to someone else. Who would you recommend?
Isn't there ANYBODY out there that has used or heard of a local computer repair company? Or is it a case of there's no one that makes house calls? I used to see signs around Clayton for a Computer Doctor (?) but it's not listed in my phone book. Any info or feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Unknown PC, with unknown OS, having an unknown problem, being fixed at an unknown location with unknown local resources. There is really only so many contingencies you can plan for while "in the field". A repair at my mom or sister's house takes 50% longer (on a good day) than it does at home. 75% more time than when I am at work with my PC bench right there in front of me. I think that you'd be better off soliciting for PC repair shops that will offer a discount for senior citizens. You might even be able to finagle pick-up and drop-off (or work through a church group to provide that service). My $.02.
