To the web geeks like myself. Do you use a content management system?
I like Joomla and all of its features. I am still playing with it to learn about it.

I was wondering if anyone has experience with Joomla or other content management systems. Drupal, Xoop, etc.

I have 4 and possibly 5 sites that I will be using a cms on to allow my customers to manage their own content. Would appreciate any response.

Yes I can program PHP, Mysql, etc. just in case you are wondering.

    Hi chik,

After researching and trying out available CMS's (pretty much what devilock76 listed), we have been using Joomla. Development is proceeding on Joomla, there are lots of add on's and fairly easy to customize if familiar with PHP and MySQL. The userbase and thus the support base is large so getting answers to questions or solving development issues is pretty easy.

For a standard site with basic HTML content, it does fine right out of the box, especially if you get aquainted with creating custom templates for the "look and feel" you want for a site. It's when you get into more complex sites that decisions have to be made. Such as...the customer wants to add a shopping cart...wants to add a forum, etc. At this point, do you use what has been programmed specifically as a Joomla add on....or....do you use another offering and integrate it into Joomla?

We've used our own in-house written CMS in the past for other sites, but when we did the remake on 4042.com we decided to use Joomla for the CMS and then custom integrated what we considered to be best of breed programs for the features (like vBulletin for the forums, and e-Classifieds). So far with some PHP and MySQL duct tape, baling wire and magic, we haven't found anything yet we couldn't make it do.

Let us know how your search goes and what you decide on. Would be interested to hear what direction you go for a CMS.

I am warm with php and mysql and installed joomla. I am doing the template tutorial now.

As for the others I will do a review, I did consider the wb cms for my smaller sites I have sitting here. So I will try them out and let you know.

I just started playing with these and will post the sites when I get done.

My new husband is a dj and I am putting a site together for him and other djs to have profiles on. So I will see what works best for his site.

I was thinking real content filters. Like for Corporate nets.
