I need help! I shut down my computer Friday before going out of town. Came back Sunday, rebooted, checked email and went on internet. Everything worked fine. Thirty minutes later, the screen sent black and when rebooted, received the message: windows/system32/config file corrupt. Won't boot even in Safe Mode. I've looked online and there is a way to fix it, but you have to have the Windows setup disk. My Windows was factory installed and I have no disk. Does anyone have experience with Joe who advertises on classifieds?
When you boot the computer, right after you see the bios screen and then hear the "beep" (it comes quick) start tapping the 'F8' key about 4 times. That will bring you to the boot choice screen. Use the arrow key and highlight "Last Known Good Configuration" then hit 'Enter".
If you are still having issues, take a look at this http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;307545 It's very detailed and too long to paste the entire page on here. You will need to have an original Windows CD to follow this procedure so you would have to borrow one from a friend or have a local pc guy do it for you.
