Is anyone else in the 40/42 area having problems connecting to Embarq's high-speed DSL? We've been without service for two days now. Their techs claim it has something to do with the migration from Earthlink to Embarq.
We've been having problems with Embarq since the middle of May. The service has been running very slow, emails to people with road runner aren't going through, emails with attachments aren't going through and the Embarq homepage and email page are memory hogs. A lot of times we get script errors on those two pages while everything else works fine. I thought the service was supposed to be "improved" and "better" than what we had with Earthlink.
Mines been fine in downtown Clayton. I don't like it as much since they switched from earthlink, but I've not had any problems.
Thanks, everyone -- after three sessions with their Customer Service, they've decided to send me a new modem. Should be here later this week. Hopefully that will solve the problem.
Just another note from an old thread we had here. If you have embarq and your modem is a model 645 call them and tell them you are having problems and would like a new modem. They will send you the new one for free and it will improve your connection. It's also idiot-proof to install ... well ... if you read the directions first.
Well, we installed the new 660 modem last night, and switched from Earthlink to the new Embarq platform they're pushing. I see what you mean about it being a memory hog. Takes 4 to 5 minutes to load a web page. This is progress!?
Got to dslreports.com and run some speed tests. Run the free utilities to boost your speed. 4-5 minutes is unacceptable. Ping this site and post the results. (start>run> type cmd> type ping www.4042.com -t)
""""Do not load the software"""!!!! It's not necessary to get broadband. Remove the software and you'll see an improvement.
I uninstalled Embarq's security software, and now everything is working fine. Guess I'll stick with Norton and Webroot for internet security. Thanks to all who responded!
