Do any of you have experience with Embarq fast-access internet service?
I still use dial-up and I'm looking into DSL instead. I currently have Embarq (formerly Sprint) as my home phone service. I looked at their site and what they offer for the DSL looks pretty good price-wise compared to some others I've heard about. Opinions and suggestions are welcome, thanks!

Yes I happen to have JUST gotten it and have to say I really do like it. I was mired in Dial-up for many years and when the deal came along they are offering I tried it and it is really fast BUT it has not been an easy thing.

To start I did months of research on it and other services and had numerous conversations with Embarq reps about myoptions. I finally decided to make the plunge and signed up through an Embarq sales rep via telephone.

    A little background:

My wife worked in the Telecomm industry for years prior to the down-turn a few years ago and she was laid off. We have kept our long distance service with them b/c they never took her off the employee pricing thing. The reason I tell you this is b/c it has played a BIG role in my service problems so far.

I was advised IN WRITING and verabally that I did not have to switch my LD to Embarq to get the $24.99 deal (DSL).

After I signed up and got my first bill I noticed they charged me $34.95 for the service so my calls to Customer Service began. I was told I did not qualify for the $24.99 package b/c I did not get the LD with them. So the sales rep LIED to me!!! not only once but several times in both writing and verbally. I plead my case and was told that the manager of the rep that sold me the service would call me on Monday (I called on Friday to discuss this).

Well Monday came and almost went and no phone call so I began calling...I went through five reps, two managers and four callcenters in four different states before I supposedly got the matter resolved. I still do not know for sure that it is resolved as I have to wait for my next bill.

Basically the moral of the story is that you MUST have Embarq's LD to get thier 24.95 package and don't let them tell you different!!!!

If RoadRunner from TWC is an option you can look at that, I had the special for a while and when I called after the special was over to cancel just the Cable, they told me about about the Road-Runner-lite that they have. IT is about the same speed as DSL and is $25 dollars a month.
you will have to specifically ask for it.
it is slower then regular RR but not noticibly, I have not problem with the 4 networked computers and Vonage that I have running on it.

Only thing I do not like abou tthem is that the @25 deal is only good for 6 minths then wham it goes up, Embarq's rate is good for as long as you have the service.

Thanks for your help Wolfcub. The LD option is really not a problem for me, we hardly ever make LD calls anyway, all our family lives locally. I will probably be giving them a call today.

Not interested in the cable company services, we have a satelite dish.

the $25 is not a special, I had the special for 18 months and switched to RR lite. Also, you do NOT have to get cable to have Roadrunner. you can get keep your dish and just get RR for internet
