This actually does happen...the cats that students dissect in school are part of this as well. I know because I lost my cat when I was 11 to one of these thieves. There were over a dozen pets rounded up from that neighborhood that weekend, and my cat had a collar and a nametag, but that didn't stop them from taking him. How do I know what happened? It was in a community where people knew the "van" that drove around looking for stray cats. Sometimes he was "welcomed" when the cats were feral, but each time he showed up, some pets disappeared as well.
