Trying to install a fresh copy of xp pro sp3 onto a Dell Dimension 8250

Disconnected all external pci but I keep getting

file pci.sys caused an unexpected error (47872) at line 5962 at d:\xpsp\base\boot\setup\setup.c

I can read it from another pc. I even went and cleaned the cd to make sure it was ok. Any thoughts?

    Rockyv58,
Were you having issues on the system before the re-install? I would run chkdsk on the PC and try again. If you still have errors, run a memory test.

I was having some issues with xp home. I got the xp pro from school. I am thinking that the burn didn't go well. I found an old xp pro sp1 and put that on fine and now just doing all the updates to sp3. I am going to end up bring the cd back and try a different cd just to see if it will be read.

If you want me to take that SP1 CD and slipstream SP3 and all of the subsequent hot fixes, patches, updates etc. into one installation DVD, let me know.

This is what I use, if you want to do it yourself:

Thanks I will give it a try. If I have any id-10-t issues I will let you know and have you do it.

It took me a while but I did get all the service packs and hot fixes installed on the pc. Was even able to add a 320GB hard drive added as a slave on this pc.

Now I just have to find some old memory for it. It only has 256 MB memory installed and I want to upgrade the memory.

If anyone has any of this laying around or know where I can pick any of it up cheaply let me know.

PC800, RDRAM, non-ECC. 512 MB, 40 ns or faster, Maximum memory 2 GB
PC1066, RDRAM non-ECC, 512 MB, 32 ns or faster, Maximum memory 1.5 GB

    Thanks in advance.

PS - If anyone has an older copy of ghost I could borrow. I want to burn a back up copy of the PC load so if I have to reload it. It won't take long. Thanks
