I have noticed lately that I have a file that keeps 'just' popping up on my desktop called 'polling.properties'. I have no idea what it is, I have sent it to the waste basket twice but it is back again? I have not attempted to open it as I do not know if its some kind of virus - Any ideas? Thansk - Traveler
Do a search for it on your PC. It might just be a desktop item that was put there by the main program. If you do a search it should pull up any folders associated with it and then you can uninstall from there if need be.
Right click on the icon, and then click "properties". That will tell you what it starts. If it's a web site run some spyware software to see if it gets it. If it has a directory see if you can delete the directory. If it won't delete cause its running you can use HiJackThis to stop the program from running for deletion. I've been running into a lot of RootKits lately. The term rootkit is used to describe the mechanisms and techniques where malware, including viruses, spyware, and trojans, attempt to hide their presence from spyware blockers, antivirus, and system management utilities. There are several rootkit classifications depending on whether the malware survives reboot and whether it executes in user mode or kernel mode. If the spyware remover doesn't get it try seaching for a "RootKit Killer". There's quite a few free ones out there. I listed a program called "Ace Utilities" in this forum. It works well with rootkits also.
Thanks Rom - that worked it came up as an associated file to some of my 3rd party software I use daily.
