I need someone to fix my printer. It is an Epson Stylus CX5400. It has not been used in about a year since my son decided to print off the entire Harry Potter website and WASTED all of my ink in the process. So, I FINALLY broke down and bought some ink today.

It is not printing!! The paper is feeding straight but coming out crooked, and there might be a liiiitle smidge of black ink (that is all I replaced - all I could afford at 33 bucks a pop!!) on the paper.

I did a little research, and decided I did not want to be bothered with it. This http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/duraink.html and this

http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/forums/printer/28050 looks like it could be one of my problems, but I can't figure out why the freaking paper is coming out crooked and slightly crumpled/torn/jammed as a result. I just bought the paper today at Target. It is Multipurpose paper, 8.5" x 11", 92 bright. I usually buy the cheap stuff (and this was the cheapest!).

So, who is interested in tinkering with my printer?

    Cleo,
First thing to fix is the paper feed, then you can address the "no" print problem.

Turn the printer off. Put a "single" sheet of paper in the feed tray. Make sure the feeder guard (the plastic piece in front of the paper) is pushed back as far as it will go. Look under your scanner cover. There is a paper thickness adjuster on the top right side. Make sure its set to paper and not an envelope or other type. Slide it all the way to the bottom. Second, make sure the paper guide (that flat piece that you slide up against the paper edge) in the tray is very close to the paper edge but not real tight. Turn the printer back on and wait for it to quit making noise. Push the "COLOR COPY" button. See if the paper comes out straight.

If thats not it, it may be you have a small piece of paper jammed inside the roller assembly. Your feed is working and the paper looses alignment in processing. Put the printer on your kitchen counter where you can turn it on its sides. Take a flashlight and inspect all the dark places inside. Open all the inspection doors and do the same. A long pair of forceps come in handy if you find the blockage.

If you get the paper to feed straight thru and it still won't print let me know. Tip on the "no" print: Pull the color cartridge and put it back in and tell the printer that it is a "new" one.

The sad news Cleo, a new printer is cheaper than having a shop fix that one.

OK. Got the jam fixed. It was one of Baby Girl's ponytail holders!! Must have fallen in there and gotten wedged.

Still, nothing printing. Did you check out those links Hught? Think that might be my issue?

Go to "Start" "Control Panel" "Printers".
Right click on the "CX5400" icon and go to preferences.
Find the "cartridge clean" and run it a couple of times.
See if it doesn't start printing.

I dunno why I called you Hught...

Anyway, I can't use that because it says my ink is low. Is it referring to the black cartridge I just installed, or was I supposed to replace the other three as well?

Cleo, I could look at it, but I'm no guru. I just throw something at my printer when it malfunctions, and that seems to get its attention, lol.

Before I tell you "I can try and fix it for you", let's try one last thing.

Open the ink door. remove "all" the cartridges. Put them back in and when it asks .. click on "new" cartridge installed. Now do the steps for cleaning in my last post. Then print a letter or something with just black because your colors are empty.

    What does it look like?

I FINALLY got around to doing this... I basically re-installed the cartridge - the only difference this time was it charged the ink (whatever that means!).

Thanks ddrdan!!! I now have printing capabilities!!
