Hi All, What frugal meals are you preparing this week? Tonight we are having a family favorite - beef stroganoff. Here is the breakdown: 1 lb london broil - 50 cents! (on sale at harris teeter BOGO, had 2 $1.50 winetags, and a $3 mail in rebate) 6 carrots - approx 50 cents 1 can low sodium beef broth - 88 cents 1/2 onion - 13 cents (on sale at Kroger last week) spices - approx 25 cents sour cream - free with Q's no yolks wide noodles - free with Q and triples pillsbury crescents - .30 (with Q's and triples) Apple slices - approx. .50 Milk for kids and H20 for hubby & I - approx .40 Total for meal for 4 people: $3.46 What's in your oven (or crockpot, or stove......)?
Hmm, well let's see. Tonight, Mini Me has ball practice, so I have all ideas we'll be eating Subway (as I've sworn off fast food). No frugality for me!
I love stuffed shells and it has been a long time since I made them. Maybe time to add them to the meal plan again. Thanks for the idea, Ken.
We're having lasagna Sauce - leftover spaghetti sauce (free) Ricotta cheese - 1.27 (walmart brand) Mozzerella - on hand (bought sometime ago during cheese sale w/coupons) Noodles - leftover from last time we had lasagna (box .89) 1/2 box .45 Bread - he gets artisan bread from lowes free at his work Cost for 4 = .43 (actually is cheaper than that because this will be dinner for 2 nights and lunches for my husband)
Well, DH is out of town. I'm getting the girls two Chick-fil-a Sandwiches (free coupons for both) and they can drink drinks from home and eat chips from home. Me a salad. Or I could eat leftover BBQ chicken, and veggies. I bought all this stuff on sale w/coupons, so it's probably around $4-$5 for either option, or cheaper. I usually buy and cook enough for two meals
FMO2, I don't know how in the hell you know how much things actually cost after getting them home and putting them away. Do you put a sticky label on everything??? Dinner tonight - leftover lunch from Lonestar today. OR whole chicken (grilled) last night OR leftover Manwich OR leftover Stir Fry
Well, Mrs. Leftover Queen, I bought most of it in the last week so it was easy to remember. No sticky labels for me - that would involve too much work. Your wife's recipe does sound great, Ken.
We are having a whole, baked "yellow" chicken (perdue) - $4.19 Fresh Collards - 2.99 for a huge bag Lipton Noodles Side Dish - they owed me .25 (on 2 packs) after triples Fresh Crowders - 0 (from sister's garden to freezer to table) We'll have lunches for tomorrow as well!
Depends on what it is, but I don't do a lot of leftovers either. Italian, soups, chili, stuff like that is OK. But as a rule, if it doesn't get eaten, it most likely goes in the trash. DH hates them too. I guess we ate too many as kids!
Dang - we NEVER have leftovers at my house. It's a good thing we don't have a dog . . . it would starve! Oh, and spaghetti is always better the second day!
I make lasagna from scratch, and its always better as a leftover on Day 2! After all the flavors and textures have had a chance to meld together. YUMM-O!!
I usually take my leftover Steak and make Steak Fajitas with it. Cut in small strips and put onions peppers with it to saute, then wrap in tortilla and add sour cream. Yummy! Pasta and Chili are my favorite leftovers!
