My Internet explorer isn't displaying some graphics on web pages. As far as I can tell, it seems to be a problem with gif files. Even on 4042.com, I see the emoticon gifs but no animation. On ebay's main page I get almost nothing but red X's. I've looked everywhere in IE's properties and can't find the culprit. Maybe I'm missing a plug-in??? Any help is appreciated and yes devilock, I know...mozilla right? No thanks.

The firewall is shut down. Just updated XP to SP2 yesterday...had the problem before that.

YOu said that you turned off the Windows firewall, but do you have a firewall guarding your system? If so maybe it is blocking active x controls. Or maybe you have an older version of active x on your system. Do a search for active x and download the latest version and see if that helps.

Besides a firewall, this problem can also be occuring due to ad blocking software. Try returning everything to a baseline and test from there:

    1. Clear your Internet browser cache (temporary Internet files)
    2. Under Internet Options, return all settings to default
    3. Turn off ad blocking software
    4. Turn off firewall software (like Zone Alarm)
    5. Download Ad Aware and Spybot, install, and let them update their profiles but DON'T run them yet.
    6. Restart your PC in Safe Mode (press function key F8 after the Windows screen initially apprears during boot).
    7. Run Ad Aware and Spybot to make sure you don't have any spyware/malware installs.
    8. Restart your PC in normal mode.

We recommed running the Ad Aware and Spybot because we've seen problems like this occur when the browser has been hijacked and all the activity is running through a 3rd party.. (However, this is less likely in your case if you are getting the same results when you run FireFox as your browser.)

Give it a try after that....also, after you visit a site, hold down on the SHIFT key on your keyboard and click on the REFRESH button in your browser. (This forces IE to pull everything from the website again instead of looking to the local cache.)

Let us know if you figure it out!

It was Zonealarm causing the problem. Still don't know how to run ZA without having the problem. How I found out was, I right clicked on several of the red X's and looked at the properties. Each one had the filename "bug.cgi" so I yahoo'd bug.cgi and blah blah blah fixed the problem...temporarily. I resorted to running the Windows firewall instead of ZA. Any ideas on how to permanently fix the problem so I can run ZA?? By the way, devilock and david, I found Firefox to be too slow so I deleted it. I did give it a week. Thanks everyone!

Seen multiple issues myself regarding Zone Alarm. However, these issues were experienced via the "free" version of Zone Alarm. Did you purchase the full version, or are you using the very popular free trial version?
