I've heard Drdan and Ken say that laptops are pretty much disposable. Is the same true for handhelds?

I'm interested in getting one to use as a daily planner, phonebook, & mp3 player. Not really interested in email or games. Any recomendations?

When it comes to handhelds my favorite gadget of all times is my Garmin IQue 3600. It is a Palm based handheld that does all the stuff a Palm normally does (calendar, contacts, etc.) PLUS it has a built in GPS with moving map display and voice prompt driving directions. MP3 player also built in and it uses SD memory cards that are dirt cheap now.

While I keep my contacts and other info on it, I use it most for the GPS functions and the MP3. Has proven itself more than once to be more accurate than in-dash car GPS systems I have used!

I believe the new model is going to use the Pocket PC platform, so you have that flavor available also if Palm doesn't appeal to you.

You can check out their various models here:

Check Ebay...normally good deals to be had there on Garmin products.
