PC at home caught a bug last week and is now totally hosed. Cant log on to it at all. First virus i have never been able to beat. I think i know but i want to make sure. Formatting the drive is not an option as there are to many files i have to get off their or the world comes to an end on New Years Eve. Trust me. What i want to do is put another hard drive in there (have 2 now but ill take my extra out) and move my existing C: (that is hosed) to D: and use it as a slave. With the new drive and OS on there ill be able to use the PC again but what do you think....will the viruses on the new slave corrupt the new C:? Or will i be able to use the slave long enough to get what i need off it and then trash the drive altogether?
Im going to stick a drive in there with an OS on it already just so i can move the files from the infected drive. Only going to copy over html, excel, word, song and pic files. Im thinking that if the infected drive is now D: or Q: or whatever that the viruses will not run since they are not loaded at startup as the C: drive. Hopefully nothing will infect the new drive.
