The dog jumped across the keyboard and the F key popped off and I can't pop it back on b/c the little clamps on the back of the key are broken

I had the same situation with the beagle taking two keys off my old lap top. I was able to kind of wedge them back in , but they never performed right after that.

I was able to convince the boss that my PC was obsolete  and got a new one.

I was looking at just replacing the whole keyboard (actually a lot easier than it sounds for most lap tops). You might check ebay or inquirer with your company IT person and see if they have any dead PCs that are your model. You could probably replace the whole keyboard in less than 15 minutes.

I had to replace some keys on my previous laptop (due to my wonderful 2 year old!) and I found them pretty cheap on ebay. Due to the number of keys I had to purchase it was cheaper for me to buy an entire keyboard on ebay for $10.

Compaq keyboard keys don't 'usually' go back on. Hught is right, you can get them back on but it won't last long. The are a solitary unit when installed on the board. Getting the pad cap back on properly is a miracle.

If you do decide to use Ebay to purchase a board make sure it's not an after market board. They never last and 9 times out of 10 they are made to fit multiple models and after all the trouble of replacement you find quirks in the operation.

You keyboard Part number is: 442887-001

If your not familiar with ZIF Sockets I don't suggest doing it yourself. You'll need to remove the switch cover and then the keyboard. Not knowing which screws to remove on the bottom can cause you to release the motherboard from the case. Then you have to completely disassemble to replace those screws.
