How can I open FireFox without reopening old tabs?

    I was googling pics of Halloween cakes and got this site that was a "FakeAlert.Gen" and Mal/Koobface-G" thing. Webroot quarantened it but to get it to stop doing what it was doing all I knew to do was start task manager and end all tasks. So now when I open Firefox it tries to reopen the tabs that had all the crap on it and it all starts over again. Is there a way I can restart Firefox and not reopen the suddenly closed tabs?

    Do I need to uninstall FF and reinstall? Because everytime I open it it's going to do the same thing... right...?

    edit: I'm using IE right now.

    I'd start off by checking your settings. From the Menu Bar (assuming you can get this far), select Tools, then Options, then General. Make sure under Startup, you have selected "Show my homepage" instead of "Show my windows and tabs from last time".

    If you have to go so far as to remove and re-install FF....

    1. If you have any bookmarks, add-ons, extension, etc. you want to save, use mozbackup first.
    2. Un-install FF.
    3. If "System Restore" is on, turn it off. (Steps for: XP, Vista, 7)
    4. Reboot in safe mode without networking. (Hit F8 repeatedly BEFORE the Windows logo/loading screen appears.)
    5. Do an anti-virus and anti-spyware/malware scan, with more than one program, and let them do their cleaning.
    6. Turn system restore (back) on, if desired. (Steps for: XP, Vista, 7)
    7. Reboot. (No need to press any keys, "Normal" mode is what you want.)
    8. Reinstall FF.
    9. If you used mozbackup, use it again to restore your FF back-up.

    I tried it while ago and the virus crap took over before I could do anything and I had to start over again (end task). As soon as you click on the FF browser icon a window pops up asking do I want it to make changes to my computer I say no and the thing takes off like a rabbit. So I was just about to try it a third time. My heart was in my throat and it asked again, I said no and to my surprise here comes FF. ... It tried to open the old tabs but this time it didn't. I was paralyzed for a few seconds there. This will be the third computer I've killed.

    I ain't looking at no more cakes either I tell ya that! The next one I look at will be my own! And I'll post a pic too! It's gonna be a dirt graveyard! Spooookyyy!

    I went to FireFox and asked them too. I really had ants in my pants wanting to know what to do! lol This is what they said:

    I'm going set this up because anytime something happens it's because I've clicked on a bad page. And when I try to open FF again it just starts over. I'd rather loose what I'm looking at and search again than get shut down by some nasty little thing someone has planted on a link.

    You can either delete the file sessionstore.js in the Firefox Profile Folder.

    Or you can set the pref browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes to 0 on the about:config page to get the about:sessionrestore page immediately with the first restart after a crash has occurred or the Task Manager was used to close Firefox.

    That will allow you to deselect the tab(s) that you do not want to reopen, but will allow to reopen the other tabs. See:

    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Session_Restore#Restoring_a_session_after_a_crash

    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes

    To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
    If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.

    Try this- it should work for you.....

    It sounds like you may actually have malware on your computer.
    Since you are able to use IE, go to http://www.malwarebytes.org and
    download the free version of Malwarebytes. After you have downloaded it, run the installation and then and update it. Then reboot your computer into "safe mode", open up "Malwarebytes" and then run a quickscan on your hard drive. It should find the malware and then will give you the option to "remove selected" (which you will need to do). Once you do this, reboot your computer as you normally do, go back to Firefox, go to the "tools" and chose "Clear recent history". You can also select options to do this everytime you exit out of Firefox, but for now, I recommend just clearing the recent history. After this, you should be good to go. I used to use this on over 300 computers that I used to support before I retired and it does a great job! Good luck!!
