HELP! Last night I turned my computer on and it made a loud whining noise. It did boot up for a minute or two, but the keyboard would not work. Then the whole thing shut down and now it will not turn on at all.

Give it to me straight . . . is it fried? I cannot live without my computer!!!

    Help!

My old one sounded like that and we just needed to replace the fan. DH uses that one now and I got a new DELL.
As far as the keyboard not working, is it wireless and need batteries?   I had to ask!

Ken - it definitely sounded mechanical.

    Harley - - - ;) No, it's not a wireless keyboard. You're a nut!

Do either of you know how much it would cost to have the fan replaced and where I would take it to have this done?

Before you start spending money on the repair. How old is it and is it still under warranty? Usually 1 year.

3 possible sorces and repair costs for you "whinning":
    1. CPU fan .... $30 to $50
    2. Power supply ... price varies on brand of PC .. low end $50 high end $100
    3. Hard drive .... Price varies by which size you want, and, "if" you have the CD's for recovery. If you have CD's ... low end $120 (80 GIG w/ OS install)

PM if you want a cost quote on the problem.

If it's a proprietary PC ( HP, Dell, etc...) post the "TAG" or "Service" or "Model" number and we can get a better idea on parts prices.
