My keyboard died and I have 2 older keyboards laying around, an IBM and a Dell Keyboard. However when I plug them into my computer neither one will work. They do not seem to register with the computer. I am using Windows XP. Do I need a driver or something for them?

    Thanks for the help!

Just a guess because you said old keyboards, but ps/2 is not necessarily hot-swappable. Have you tried restarting with one of those keyboards attached?

Thats three keyboards - are you sure it's the keyboards that are bad and not something on the board?

If you used a ps2 style KB and move to a usb KB then wait about 5 minutes after the computer starts to be certain that the new KB is detected and installed.

If all of the keyboards are ps2 style and don't work then try and get a usb one. Your ps2 port might be damaged.

Lastly, like the other poster said, turn off the pc when swapping the KB.
