Not sure how to phrase this question but what is wrong when you are typing and your cursor jumps several words back or even lines?
Just like typing this right in the middle of typing I looked up and it was 9 words back in the middle of another word.
It must be some key that I have accidently locked.
Not sure if the question makes any sense or not.
Computer is Dell Laptop Vista and it is about 3 months old

First I'd check to see if it's a Touchpad problem. It may be your magnetic personality. If the answers below don't fix the problem here's a good prog for a fix. TouchFreeze

If you're a fast typist you may not realize your palms and the close proximity to the touchpad. Most drivers for the touchpad have a "Palm Check". If it senses a mouse touch during typing it ignores the mouse command. Raise your hands higher while you type and see what happens. You can also turn off the touchpad (see below), plug an external mouse in and see if you still have the problem.

If raising your hands doesn't work, and the external mouse fix does work, It's your touchpad driver. Go to the device manager and update the driver. Vista has forced many manufaturers to drop the "Palm Check" command from their drivers. Toshiba and Dell are using the Synaptics drivers and they don't have the command so the driver update may not work.

TURN OFF TOUCHPAD: You should have a "FN" key up on the numbers to disable the touchpad. Read your manual.

My husband has this problem with his Toshiba--it's very annoying. I found that just changing the sensitivity of the touchpad helps a little.

I just got a new HP/Compaq. My similar problem has to do with scrolling. When I hold my left click to scroll down on the browser, my cursor skips to the top and moves the page to the top. It's very annoying. What's the problem with this?
