What do they include? Something was dropped on this laptop, and the screen is dark (broken). I see "warbling" in the corner on the actual screen that coincides with the dent on the outer cover of the laptop. The coverage is listed as follows:

Product Care Plan covers 100% parts & labor for:
    -Mechanical & Electrical Failures
    -Damage from Power Surges
    -Normal Wear & Tear Failures
    -Damage Caused by Environmental Factors

The Laptop & Service Plan was purchased from Walmart (NOT BY ME!!) last Fall.

Might I need to use some fancy language to get this covered and repaired for free, or is it something that I might have to make a copay?

Hey, I'm already retired! But seriously, you think Environmental factor is the way to go? I cannot buy another laptop. Screens are 300 bucks, I already looked into those. If worse comes to worse I could go that route, and get one of my 4042 buddies (hint-hint!) to install it for me.

True, and it IS Walmart. Home of buy something someplace else, and we'll give you cash for it - no questions asked!

Thanks Ken, I'll let you know how it goes or I'll be securing your services for screen replacement. Don't say you're too busy!!!

Dell screen broke for me (they did not buy the environmental factor in my case even though I had extended warranty) but it was relatively easy to replace the screen, but my wife was there to make sure I grounded myself out and all that other stuff.

Yeah, I don't know if they will buy it either but it is worth a try! Does anybody have any experience with Acer?

Appcomm pretty much hit it on the head. Screens and motherboard replacement in a Laptop is a wash.

If the unit is practically new I would suggest buying the same model. Or find out which newer model uses almost the same parts. Then you have a parts source for the new one in case of damage. Parts are the expensive thing in laptop repairs. You'll also have 2 batteries now. The #2 expensive thing in a laptop.

As for Wal-Mart’s warranty, it’s the only one I recommend to buy. Purely based on its cost first and secondly on what it provides.

Here’s your reason for wanting warranty service on your problem. I shouldn’t really tell you this, now I have to kill myself.

You left the unit running while you were at work. When you got home it you saw it smoking. You fumbled to shut the lid and move it out of the room and you dropped it. It shut off when it hit the floor and it stopped smoking. If it has a prominent dent …. it hit the desk on the way down.

Answer to warranty: If it weren’t smoking I wouldn’t have dropped it.

“The bend & snap …. Works every time!!”

Lol, Bend & Snap! No worries, I shipped it off to Acer and told them "I dunno, the screen just stopped working". It came back good as new last week.

sounds like how i got through alltel insurance last time i threw my phone at the wall. =X

"The screen doesn't work anymore... its covered in lines, and all it shows is white."
    "did you drop it?"
    "uhh... no."
"Well, the only way that can be caused is heat, or dropping."
"Oh... well... i guess the heat then. it has been hot recently"

    it wasn't technically DROPPED... =x

It really depends on where you bought it Cleo. Sometimes it is no question asked the first year and then you will prolly have to ship it back to the vendor over the 1 year mark.
