I have a Toshiba laptop Satellite 1005-S157 that has a XP OS. Laptop is old but has been running fine.
A couple of weeks ago I turned it on and it would not connect to the internet. Everything comes up but will not connect. It has a wireless card that sticks in the side. I have tried to connect it direct with the Ethernet cable without any luck. Any suggestions? I would like to keep It as a spare if at all possible.
    Thanks for any help.

    1. Click Start
    2. Right click on "My Computer"
    3. Click on "Properties"
    4. Click on "Hardware"
    5. " " " "Device Manager"

look for red "x" or "!" under "Network Connections"

Give feedback once you do that.

    If you're using Internet Explorer:

    1. Open IE.
    2. On the toolbar at the top/right, click Tools > Internet Options.
    3. Click the "Connections" tab.
    4. Click the "LAN Settings" button.
    5. Check the "Automatically detect" check box, un-check all others, and Click the "OK" button at the bottom.
    6. Click the "OK" at the bottom of the previous window and restart IE.

    If you're using Firefox:

    1. Open Firebox.
    2. On the toolbar at the top, click Tools > Options.
    3. Click on the "Advanced" icon at the top.
    4. Click on the "Network" tab below that.
    5. In the Connections sub-box, click on the "Settings" button.
    6. Click the "Automatically detect proxy settings for this network" radio button and Click the "OK" button at the bottom.
    7. Click the "OK" at the bottom of the previous window and restart Firefox.
