I'm looking to replace my home laptop - mostly used for pictures, videos, onscreen games, etc - does this sound like it would be efficient? It's on sale and after rebates etc would be about $330.00 - so it sounds pretty reasonable! TIA! Spit spit tug tug........I have one still under warranty. Dell Inspiron 1545 Pentium Core Duo. Loaded. I also have 7 Pro and Office Pro 2010. 500.00 With Software. Beware of the bells and whistles. Just a mask for a crappy design. I know cause I am smarter than a 5th grader!
At $300, it's a great deal. If you're going to use it on the go a lot, that series is a little bulky and heavier. But as my wife says, "What's a few pounds?" The display is not an LED. That's misleading on their part. LCD screens require a light on the back of the screen to shine through the LCD to show the picture. They've replaced the standard CCFL Bulb with a multi LED Bulb for power efficiency. That's the LED they are referring to. Where did you find it for $300?
got an email from Staples - orig price 549.98 instant sav -120.00 Easy rebate -50.00 Staples extra coupon - -50.00 total = 329.98
Yeah - I'm not sure what software comes on it - will probably upgrade to MS home (is that the one w/ Excel?) cause DS needs it on his computer and they have the one for 'up to 3 computers' on sale (and I have another coupon I can use on it - might have to be a separate purchase). I'm looking to replace my Dell Inspiron 6000 - too sluggish! But its prob 5-6 yrs old? I've had it worked on couple of times, had more memory added and it still craps out on occassion. This last time we lost Windows, couldn't do anything. Had a 'friend' work on it and he kept it for almost 4 mths before getting it back to us - very frustrating!!! And he thinks it has something to do w/ the battery. The light constantly blinks, although its never on battery, cause it has never lasted but about an hr on battery. - thought about just replacing the battery, but worried I'll continue to have problems w/ it - so been looking to just replace it.
I built this one. It has windows 7 pro, office 2010 pro. 2 gig of ram. Screams. Built in wireless. Still under factory warranty. http://www.dell.com/us/p/inspiron-15/pd
Ok, so I went by Staples and looked at the computer and I pretty sure I'm gonna get it. Of course they try to upsale their services, so I have some questions for you gurus: 1) They offer to transfer all your files/pics etc, install the new software (MS office), create system restore CDs/DVDs. 2) The guys says since I have WindowsXP that I might have problems with those files transferring over to Windows 7? SO all this for about $100 more - I really don't see paying for something that doesn't sound like it would be all that difficult. As far as transferring files - all I'm mostly concerned about are the pictures. If I save all the files saved to a jump drive, shouldn't I be able to download them to the new computer? Is making the restore CD's or installing the software that difficult? I mean, it sounds like something I can handle, unless there's really something unusual about these processes?
