Microsoft software...

Less than 2 years ago I bought a Toshiba laptop (Vista / IE7). I used the trial of Microsoft Office & have "made do" with the limited version.

More recently, I bought my highschool daughter an ASUS laptop & she really needs the full version of some Microsoft program; Word, Office, Student, etc. Thing is, I don't know too much about the new stuff...and the older PC she had must have had at least Microsoft Office over 4-5 years ago in age.

My older PC had Microsoft WORKS on it. I did fine using it until I met with incompatability issues when importing or downloading "Word" docs.

So can I use the disc that came with my previous computers to load the programs onto my new laptops?? (Is that legal?? :? ) If not, what is the most reasonable version I should buy and what is a reasonable price??

I don't need all the bells and whistles, just the main basics. I'm looking on Ebay & Craigslist but need to know more to get what I need for a good price.
Perhaps someone here has the software I am needing?

I'd appreciate any advice you have to offer!

The MS Office on that disk is a "trial". It's old, so it will prompt you to use the newer download.

    Openoffice.org

It's free, it looks and operates like MS Office, it's compatible with office document file extensions and it's free. Did I mention it's free??
