Is your wireless antennae turned on in your laptop? Is this a new laptop or just a new problem?

Yes it is, and it is brand new. Every time you check it though it doesn't show the wireless router being conected.

Check the keyboard to see if there is a key with something that looks like a monitor with (( )) around it indicating wireless. If you see this you will likely need to hold the function key down a press this button at which opint it should lead you through some prompts.
    What kind of laptop?
I'll try to check back shortly to see if that has worked.

Just plug it in and keep going.
Did you see any keys that resembled what I was talking about?
Post the model number and I'll try to help you further if you've still not had any success.

No. That has to do with your display settings.

    What's the model number?

I've not had any experience with Acer but I'll see if I can figure something out online if you post what it is.

Meanwhile, look carefull through the programs list that you find when you click on the start button. You may see something that intuitively tells you it has something to do with your wireless.

What about the Acer literature that came with it? Have you exhausted your search through that as well?

I googled your laptop and found several posts with the same issue. Most of the time it seemed to be resolved with updating the drivers from Acer. Of course, you may need to hook up network cable if the wireless won't stay connected long enough to get the updates.
You may have to update the wireless drivers on their own if the automatic updates from Acer don't do the trick.
I also had to do the same thing with a new Lenovo I got a couple weeks ago.
    Hope it works for you.

The Acer 5315 may have the wrong driver in the Pista (Vista) driver files. So even if you reload the driver it keeps loading the wrong one. My suggestion; take it back to the place you bought it and explain that the driver it has is wrong.

You may also have a common problem with Pista. It's so anal rententive on security that if your wireless connection is unsecured it won't connect unless you go into network settings and tell it to connect anyway.

If neither of those are an option, I'll give you this info. The 5315 has 3 versions, the -2142, -2191, & -2409. Without my knowing which one you have, I can't link you to the driver. You have either a Broadcom card or an Atheros card if you're OS is Pista. Find which laptop version you have (on the bottom) and then go to the acer site and download the new driver. http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/forms/acerdrivers.cfm

Then delete the wireless card from the device manager and then reboot and direct Pista to the directory with the new driver when it finds the wireless card on the boot.

Still not an option? PM me for a quote.
