What browser are you using? Is it Internet Explorer, and what version is it?

If it is IE, and above version 5.0:

    1. Open Internet Explorer
    2. Click on "Tools" at the top
    3. Click on "Internet Options"
    4. Click on the "Advanced" tab.
    5. Scroll down to "Multimedia"
    6. Make sure there is a check mark in the "Play sounds" "Play animations" and "Play videos"
    7. Click the "Apply" at the bottom then "OK"

Go to a web site with sound and check it.

You still haven't told us what browser or OS your using?????? It would help a lot!

If your using XP try this:
    1.Open Control Panel.
2.Double Click to open Sounds and Audio Devices.
    3.Click Sounds tab.
4.Scroll down to Windows Explorer, which is present under the Programs events.
5.Select Complete Navigation and Start Navigation.
    Click OK/Apply.

Sorry...been at the beach since Friday.

My pc at work, where it does not work...IE 6.0whateverthelatestversionis

    OS is Windows 2000

Soundcard mixer....that could be a thing there...i remember messing with something a month or so ago when things stopped working. Still, it makes no sense. I use Winamp to listen to mp3 files as well as internet radio and it all works. Windows Media Player works fine. Just got the latest version of Quicktime but that has not helped. It just does not work on some certain sites like Myspace and some other streaming video places like MSN or Youtube.

The rest of the answers, ill have to get tomorrow when i get to work. Thanks for all the help guys.

Actually...it was something much simpler than all of that.

The final answer to the problem is....im an idiot.

In switching between my headphones and desktop speakers (use the speakers when no one is at work) i pluged the headphones into the wrong hole of the soundcard. Fixed it this morning and all is well. While one of the holes did give me sound for some applications, it did not give for the other apps. (no idea why but there you have it).

So...all is well. Thanks much for all the help!

I have a question about sound as well.

My PC is only playing sound through one speaker. I thought the problem was the speakers, so I replaced them - but it still only comes out one side - the right side.

    Weird.

Some speakers/sound cards have a 2 port set up (left speaker and right speaker). Check you connections to see if it is something like that.

I dunno - it worked fine when I bought it, a few months later one side died. The speakers only have one plug.

No high-end stuff here... 8) I'll just go with the new card. Hahah, soldering...hahahah!

Maybe the furball will get out while I am in there.

Open the volumn controls and make sure the slider for "balance" is centered. Balance is on the top of all the volumn controls. If you don't use the microphone check the mute block. It sometimes effects speakers.
