You probably get loads of those “pre-approved” credit card applications that show up in the mail. Besides being annoying, did you know that is one of the prime ways that the “identity thieves” do their dirty work? Yep, they pick them out of mail boxes, apply for the card and have them sent to a different address...then the problems start for you! You can stop the pre-approved applications being sent to you by calling 1-888-5optout. This is a centralized service provided by the credit bureaus that allows you to remove yourself from the mailing lists for 2 years.
Dialling now ... SICK of those things!!! Always been scared someone would get a hold of a credit application and fill one out without my knowledge ...
I called but they wanted my ss number and address etc... are we sure they are legit? I hung up on them until I could do some research.
you can actually do the same thing by pulling your credit on equifax.com just by clicking a box when registering. That's how I did it. Try it that way.
I did the same thing, not that I dont trust Webbie ... but I hopped online and did some research. It's legit.
Sorry Webbie, not doubting you, just cautious these days. I'll call back like a good girl. (thanks ya'll)
I would NEVER give my ss# to someone over the phone. I think that was a good call, ljk... or should I say, a good hang-up.
I certainly understand the concern over giving out your SS#. If this helps, here's a second source: http://clarkhoward.com/shownotes/category/7/40/227/353/
Yall should do what I started doing this week. I take the offers out of the envelope, rip my name off and stuff the junk and the envelope it came in into the prepaid envelope and mail their junk back to them. Since Monday I've had 5 already! To be creative, try sending one company's offer to another company in their prepaid envelope.
