I was given an older PC for my 9yo to run his homeschool computer program on. I am trying to check it out but the first screen to pop up asks for the "power-on" password. I have no idea where the PC came from so no way to get the password. Any way I can get around this??

You can open the PC and remove the bios battery for a couple of minutes.

If you don't feel comfortable opening the case and removing the battery you can try these manufacturers "bypass" passwords.

When your first screen comes up you'll see the name brand BIOS you have, use the list below from there.

You may need to try quite a few passwords before you find one that works. If it's a name brand PC start with the list at the bottom.

These passwords are CaSe SeNsItIve. Do not include the (*) at the beginning.

Thank you for your replys. I did find out, in online research , about the battery. We have been trying to open the case for 2 days. It is NOT easy. I don't mind doing it but just won't open all the way. If I can't get it open tonight, I am going to try the passwords. Thanks again!!!

Just taking the battery out doesn't usually work. You'll probably have to clear the CMOS as well. This usually involves moving a plastic jumper on the motherboard

Every motherboard is different. If you look closely on the board you will usually see marked on the board with tiny white letters with something about "Clear CMOS", etc. There will be a tiny black plastic jumper on two small metal pins. You usually reposition the black jumper and turn on the computer and then reposition it back and then turn on the computer a second time. Again you can just try to remove the battery first before you may need to resort to moving the jumper. You may want to do a google or youtube search for your computer or motherboard to see if anyone has posted pictures on your specific computer model. I know someone who does computer work if you don't have any luck with this.
