Is there anyway to set up a system to require a password if and when you want to download from the internet.. Example.. Kids trying to download songs.. I want a password set up so that before they download to my computer, that a password has to be entered.

    Thanks in advance

I didn't even think about putting down the software we run..
We use Windows XP and as far as the Internet explorer goes, I honestly am not sure. I am at work right now so I don't have access to it.

My problem is not the downloading the songs itself, its the content of the songs or groups. I want to be able to monitor the content of music my kids listen to in my house.

purevolume.com is the one site he uses. I am not that computer savy, so what I could tell there is no parental guideline with them. There is ton's of songs from what I can see that they can download free for mp3 players

Purevolume is mostly a new artist blog site. Pretty much Progressive and Punk. If your a musician, it's not a bad site. But, no parental guides there. This may not be a good site for him as some bands lack decorum.

Or you let him experience the site with you there. While my kid was growing behind the screen to the world I used that approach. It brought us together on a regular basis. Teaching our kids the good and the bad, that's what it's all about, right? The internet is no different than anything else we teach them. Time & love makes them grow. Well, that and a whole lot of groceries.

If your still want a security system try a web search for "Parental security software" or "Parental download restriction software" They won't prevent him from listening on the web. I'm not sure if there is a security program for stream? Ken would know that answer?

Some routers come with pre-installed parental controls to block access to certain sites. I know Linksys usually has this. You can block access to a site by entering the domain name, and even enter the times you want to block access (is 5pm - 9pm). I'm not sure if you can enable any kind of password to get to the site.

That's why I stop at website filtering. It's good for most of my needs.

Then there's the problem of wireless networks. But that's a different thread.
