I have started getting a Security Warning that pops up when I access some websites asking me if I want to install or don't install Macromedia Flash Player 7. I have just been X'ing out and it continues to pop up. 1. Does anyone know what this program is for? 2. Why the security warning only pops up on certain sites? 3. If this is something I can use is it safe to install? I'm not the most computer savy person and certainly don't want to screw anything up so I appreciate your responses.
1. Does anyone know what this program is for? The Macromedia Flash player is the software you need to be able to view web sites that incorporate "Flash" into their content. This usually involves animation, sound and movie-like presentations. Since you don't currently have the Flash player installed on your PC, it is prompting you to do so. 2. Why the security warning only pops up on certain sites? Your browser is warning you because the Macromedia Flash player has made a request to be installed on your PC. You are only seeing this on sites that make use of Flash content. (Just a side note, this is one of the best reasons I know to AVOID creating sites using Flash, as it causes issues like this.) 3. If this is something I can use is it safe to install? Yes, just make sure that the source it lists as coming from is Macromedia. Also, keep in mind that *any* software you install on your PC has the potential to cause conflicts.
If I de-install Flash, will that stop all that horrible flashing and blinking. If yes, how do I de-install?
if you have it already it shouldnt be popping up. to make the popups go away, go to macromedia and install it.
If you uninstall the Flash plugin, you'll not be subjected to the Flash content, but you will be prompted each time to install it when you visit a site that uses it. Kind of a catch-22.
