I have an HP Photosmart C6280 All-in-One. Printing on cover stock, I had 3 paper jams in the first dozen or so copies, and now the printer says it's out of paper, even though it's not. I tried changing to regular 20-lb paper and printing a different document, and it still thinks it's out of paper. Any suggestions?
I had a similiar experience about a year ago. First I checked through back of printer to be sure there were no fragments of paper lodged within the printer. Then I had to shut down the printer, shut down the computer, unplug everything from wall outlet and allow time to re-set. Then rebooted the computer and then the printer. The printer did seem to re-set itself.
Thanks, I'll try that. I tried re-booting, and that didn't help, but I didn't unplug everything and wait. I'll let you know if it works.
If all else fails, contact HP directly and explain the problem. They might be able to help walk you through fixing the problem.
That could be a multitude of problem causes. Lets do a few of the simple fixes: 1. This is a dumb one but I have to ask. Did you push the outfeed tray down after loading paper? It needs to be down. That tray also comes out. Turn the power off then remove and replace it. It has a switch inside that it may not be hitting because of the prior paper jam. 2. Do a Reset. Press the Power button to turn it off. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer. Unplug the power adapter from the wall outlet, and then wait 30 secs. Plug the power adapter back into the wall outlet. Reconnect the power cord to the back of the product. Press the Power button to turn on the printer. 3. Unplug the printer. Remove the duplexer from the back of the printer. (Push both release buttons on left and right at the same time) Look in the area where the duplexer installs for paper pieces. Gently rotate the rollers in there. If they don't want to roll don't force it. Now open the top of the duplexer and look for paper left by a jam. Put it back together. Give it a try with just 1 piece of paper in the tray. 4. Open the cover. To the right side there is a dust collector that looks like a strip of velcro. It's attached with double side tape. If it looks tattered peal it off. Give it a try with just 1 piece of paper in the tray. 5. Put the lime in the coconut and drink it all up. Add rum as required for levels of "This darn thing still won't work!!" Software note: If you're using Vista, 2 sided printing will give an out of paper error! You have to choose one sided for both sides and reload the paper yourself for the second side. Which makes the duplexer usless in Vista.
ddrdan, I love you! It works! There was paper still in the duplexer from the last paper jam. I didn't know the duplexer wouldn't work on Vista, but that's still another reason I'm glad I still have XP. Thank you so much!
