OK, so this isn't strictly a PC question but it is PC-related (sorta!)

I have a Garmin Nuvi 205 GPS that uses a mini USB for power and data connections.

I bought a non-OEM power cable, but the GPS treats it as if it were a PC connection and goes into programming mode. There's obviously some difference between the OEM power cable and the aftermarket one.

I figure I have voltage/ no voltage on one of the data lines, perhaps between data (-) and 5V (-), I don't know; somehow the GPS can distinguish between the cables even though no USB host is connected.

I figured I'd bounce this off you folks before I start tearing into it (Google wasn't much help, at least on the first try!).

    Thanks!

USB are 4 wire at the PC side. Equipment can have mini 5 wire on the other end. You may have a 5 wire connection at the GPS. Look inside the jack on the GPS and count the contacts and let me know if its 5 wire.

There are five contacts in the jack, five in the plug.

    Thanks!
