    Ok- I am computer illiterate. I have to go spend a few weeks with my grandmother in Florida. She does not have internet. I work from home and need internet access (preferably high speed for my VPN)

    I plan on only being there 2-3 weeks. What is the easiest way to get hooked up without needing a long term contract? I use a laptop with wireless, and my cell phone is old without internet capability.

    Ideas?

    Sometimes your internet provider will have a dial-up access you can use.
    Roadrunner has one.

    Find a Starbucks or McDonalds .....j/k :lol::lol:

    You can always scan the neighborhood she's in for people with open wireless connections. You'd be amazed on how many you'll hit. Then you can use that connection.

    And Yes, it's legal to do so. The General Statutes dictate it's the owners responsibility to secure a wireless connection.

    Where does she live? Some cities, like St. Cloud for example, have made wireless connections available to the whole town. Back when I had a laptop, I was always able to get online at my sister's house.

    She lives in Boynton Beach. She also lives in a retirement community. So most of the people are way up in age. They all have their own house etc... but are sort of backwards technology wise. Maybe I will luck out, but I will need something right away if I don't!

    She just broke her hip, so I will need to be there with her pretty much 24/7, otherwise the hot spot would be nice (just to get a break!!!)

    The 'clubhouse' has computers with internet access, but that is a mile or two away, what is the chance of picking that up?

    I want to be able to help her, yet still keep my job!!

    you can get a wireless card for your laptop that uses the cell phone signal but I assume you would have get a contract with them, depending on the cell phone and service you have, their is also an option to use your cell phone as a "tethered modem" you probably need to make sure you are not roaming or I bet you would be broke by the time you were done.
