I have Windows XP Home Edition, with Internet Explorer and my Search Engine is no longer in the little Maginifyer (sp?) glass looking thing...it comes up with: The page cannot be found The page you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please try the following: If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly. Open the lg.home.microsoft.com home page, and then look for links to the information you want. Click the Back button to try another link. HTTP 404 - File not found Internet Information Services -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What do i need to do?? I'm confused when I looked on the Microsoft site like it says to do...can anyone help me??? Thanks in advance!!
Nobody can help me???? And also...now my Games that came installed on my computer has been taken over by Yahoo Games...what's up with that??? I want things back to normal....can anyone help me....Rom???
Have you downloaded or installed something like the yahoo or google search bar? If you are not sure you can go to your start menu and go to the control panel's add/remove programs and see if they are on that list. If so and you didnt want them there you can remove it there. Not sure if I am understanding, but is it your home page that is coming up like that? If so then you might want to go to the internet properties. Look to see what it says for the home page. If it isn't the site that it is suppose to be then change it, hit the apply button and then OK. Resxtart your computer to make sure that the changes took affect. If they didnt you could have a browser hijacker virus. Those viruses aren't really dangerous, just a big pain in the @ss!!!!! Let me know. Randy
Randy, It's not my homepage...it's my Search Engine that is automatically intergrated in Internet Explorer....and my original Games folder from Windows XP with Pinball, and all the card games is now taken over with Yahoo Games online.....do I need to uninstall Yahoo??? Thanks!
Ok...I'm getting really :x now.....I went to try and redo the Windows Programs in the Control Panel and it brings up Internet Games also after I have uninstalled Yahoo Extras.....(Yahoo Games)....and I have no Pinball game like it should be when I got the computer....what the freak?!?! I hate to have to clean my system completely and start over with programs I use from the Internet...I even uninstalled that CCleaner program I downloaded....just to see what would happen....I wonder if when I ran the CCleaner the other day it cleaned out my original games and search engine that came programed on my computer??? And I have no Google or Yahoo toolbar installed...just the regular bar from Internet Explorer....
the CCleaner program shouldnt have deleted any games or programs. Try this: Start menu - control panel - add remove programs - When that window comes up click on add/remove windows componants. Click on accessories and utilities - click on games - make sure there is a check mark in all the boxes. Hit OK twice. the check to see if that puts all your factory installed games. if that doesnt work do a search for pinball. It should pull it up if it is still installed on your PC.
I did all that....and in the Windows Componants my games were there along with something ("Z" Internet Games) and no Pinball was there but the card games were...I checked them all and still it went to online games and not just the regular way on the computer offline games...I did a search and found Pinball but how do i get it back into my Games folder in my program files/start menu???? I now have NO games listed in the games folder in the start menu!!! I think i will just reinstall my Windows XP and put everything back to original settings and all that good stuff...ugh....I hate to...but looks like my only true way to get my stuff straight....now I will be on the freakin phone with Dell support in order to reinstall Windows XP again and to make sure I do it correct.....wish I knew how to do it without having to call Dell and be on the phone for about an hour.... :x Randy, can you tell me how to do the reinstall myself??? I just want everything that was on here when we bought the system and then I will go and install other programs I use that doesn't cause problems.....please tell me you can give me directions on reinstalling Windows XP myself...save me the tiresome, can't understand the support person, kids screaming in the background phone call!!!!
Instead of reinstalling XP just look up "Restore" in the help directory. Read up on the topic and do a restore. If you never established a "restore point" your going back to basics and will loose some of the software you loaded. I don't recommend this for a novice PC user. You really don't need to reinstall XP. To get Pinball back just search for "pinball" in Windows Explorer and when you find the file "Pinball.exe" right click it and "create a shortcut", right click the shortcut (it's at the bottom of all the files) and hold the mouse button down, drag it to your "Start" and guide the mouse to your games folder and drop it. Do the same for all your games. Most games are in the "C:\windows\system32" folder. You'll notice the names as you scroll through the files, like "freecell" "solitaire" etc.. Pinball is the only non typical one, it's in C:\ProgramFiles\WindowsNT\Pinball\pinball.exe. Before you do that you should really run, SPYBOT & HiJackThis to get rid of those nasty hijacks & toolbars on your browser. That should fix your browser problems. Here's a link in here for info on Hijackthis if your not familiar with it. http://4042.appcomm.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6821
ddran, thanks for the help.....but I did download and save HiJackThis into my programs folder.....now the only problem is I ain't sure what to keep or delete....and I would hate to delete anything that is needed on my system....and I will check on the games locations and try to get them back in the Start Menu/Programs/Games....and I have no Toolbars installed on my system...just the normal IE toolbar....thanks...

Next time i need help, i know who to ask!!
YellowDucky, Glad I could help. Do us a favor, drop us a PM when your friends need PC or Software repairs. Word of mouth is our best advertising. If you want us to evaluate what HiJackThis found, open it up, do a "scan", click on "save log". Change the directory it saves it in, sometimes it wants to put it in "Documents & Settings", put it in the directory "c:\program files\Hijackthis\logs" so you know where to find it. Once saved, it will pop up on the screen. Copy & paste the text file in here. I'll take at look at it and tell you what to delete.
ddran, i did have 'hijackthis' downloaded and done a scan once....but now i just went and uninstalled it....too confusing for me.....
