I was told that there were some Free website blockers and was wondering if anyone knew which ones they are and how well they work? I have tried setting a password on my computer so that everytime a site came up, it had to be approved, but my pass word keeps being disabled. I have had "shocking" surprises on my computer and want to make sure that no one is able to get into those sites and I don't get any unexpected surprises.
I was referring to the parental control, (teenage son), but the pop-up blocker will also be helpful. Thanks!
Just a note. Be VERY careful of anything on the web you can download for "FREE". Take the time to read their user agreement so you know exactly what you are agreeing they can do. All too often, a free download will include language that allows them, without any other approval, to download and install other software on your PC. This is how much spyware ends up on user computers. Can not tell you the number of machines I have had to clean up in the past year after someone decided having animated smiley faces at the end of their e-mail was necessary and they downloaded the "free" software for it. A week later they are getting constant pop-ups, redirected to other sites and their computer is dirt slow. Read the fine print! 8)
Get Firefox http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ Firefox has a pretty nice built-in pop-up blocker. Blocks pop-ups and keeps you system much safer than IE. Not sure of a parental control app, haven't used anything other than linux-based stuff. C
