On a friend's computer, on the LAN card status screen, the card should be working at 100 Mbps but it shows 10 Mbps. and receives/transmits data about that fast. Cable modem is working well on other computer so...any ideas? She says HELP!
well the tech that went there, hooked his laptop to the modem and confirmed proper operation so everything from the modem on is ok. I suspect a driver or LAN card itself, but I really don't know. Is there not anyplace to choose the LAN card speed on Win XP? I originally thought it was simply set-up wrong.
How far is the PC from the router, more or less how long is the cable? Open your network connections, go to properties on the NIC card, go to advanced, in the property window highlight "Media Type" look in the value window. If it says "auto" click the down arrow and choose 100baseTX_FullDuplex. click OK and see what you get. If this doesn't work don't forget to put it back to Auto.
everything is all together...maybe a 6 ft cable...no more than that. I'm going to check the settings u mentioned and try my lan card in the computer and i'll report back...Thanks!
Thank you very much ddrdan! The setting was wrong...We set it to auto-detect and it jumped right up to 100 Mbps
