Anytime I try to install software from the D:\I get an error....is says.....Error 1327. Invalid Drive:E:\.....any thoughts on why this is happening and/or how I can fix it??
Need a little more info to point you in the right direction. What operating system are you running (XP, Vista, etc). What software are you trying to install and what version (such as Microsoft Office 2007)? How is DRIVE D: connected to your computer....is it a CD/DVD drive built into the computer or an external drive connected via USB? On a guess that you are installing MS Office, here is a help page that refers to that error which may help: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/217666
The drive is built in to the computer and I am running Windows XP....the error happens whenever I try to install anything..this computer was recently given to me so I am not sure what baggage it ocmes with I was tring to install a game this time, but also had the same error when I tried to install my printer... Appreciate any help you might have Thanks!
THIS ANSWER IS ASSUMING: two drives in the PC, a hard drive and one CD drive. If a floppy drive is in the PC it's ok too. Your Operating System was probably installed from an external drive. If your D: shows an invalid drive read error with E: than you may have a registry key error for drive letter assignments. Your CD drive is labeled D:\ but the windows registry has it as the E:\ drive. So your registry keys refer to nonexistent folders and Microsoft installer (msi) fails. How to fix: 1: You can change your registry keys back so they have the correct drive. Not a novice job. Too long to explain. Pay a tech. 2: You can change your drive letter to what the registry wants with Windows Disk Administrator: A. Click Start, then Programs, then Administrative Tools, and click Disk Administrator B. Right-click the CD drive whose letter you want to change. Click 'Assign Drive Letter'. C. Select the 'E' drive letter from the list and click OK. Restart. If this fixed your problem please donate $1 (or more) to a charity.
