Sound / Speakers?

Ok, my speakers have been 'not working' for about 1 1/2 years now (I just have not had time to mess with them) I used to have the Bose surround speakers with the subwoofer. But one night as I was jamming to some old 70's Disco tune they just went "POOF", the sound just quit. I guessed at that time I had blown the woofer and didn't want to spend the $$ to fix, so I didn't. And I really don't need them anyway as I am not a work/music mix kinda person.

I have just gotten used to having no sound. But, I have been getting alot of e-mails, etc with sound bites (my husband loves to send them) and I can't ever listen to them. So each night when he comes home and says 'did you get that e-mail', I always have to say "Honey my speakers don't work" :(

So I decided today I would try and see if I could get at least my internal speakers to work - but I have come to a deadend.

So I thoght I would put it out there and see if anyone can maybe point me in the right direction.

What information do I need to provide about sound cards etc.

Internal speakers?? Are you using a laptop or does your monitor have internal speakers? If yours is a desktop PC, that internal speaker can't be used for audio out?

Either way, let's find out who the real "no sound" culprit is first. I've never been a big fan of these bulky speaker systems for PC's, I have a quality set of headphones that I use. I know you've got to have some headphones or even earbuds around the house. For a test, get those and plug them into the same audio out jack as the speakers were in and open windows media player for a sound check.

If you get sound from both sides of the earphones you just need new speakers. If that fixed the problem order 2 sets of these sweet Sennheiser's and have them send one set to me .... LOL  . http://www.samash.com/catalog/showitem.asp?ItemID=27299&TempID=1&departmentid=0

If you have no sound, we need to review your sound card for hardware or software errors. Let me know what you find using the headphones and we'll go from there.

Those are sweet headphones, but how do you work and wear those? I have to be on/off the phone to much, thats why I like speaks instead. Also, I wouldnt want to muss my hair!

Wow, that was simple, huh!! Glad it worked.

" but how do you work and wear those?" I have my PC to recieve my phone calls thru a modem. I pick up and make my calls from my desktop. When I'm at my desk I forward my cell to the office land line. I have dual sound cards so the phone mutes the music and vise versa on the phone line.

Ken, Wireless headphones have not caught up with technology yet. You'd think they would have by now, but not yet. Too much lose and gain in the signal. I work with Sonar XL so I like a quality headset.

Me at tech support at Creative Labs(Soundblaster):

    "My sound card doesn't work!"

"Which color jack are the speakers plugged into?"

    "The red one"

"Plug them into the green one"

    "It works!"
