Does anyone else have dockpoint dial-up service? I have been having a lot of problems with their service, especially within the last two weeks. I have been unable to send email for two weeks. They fixed it one day and it lasted a few hours and broke again. Countless times I have been unable to connect to the internet and when I do I can't get to a web page. My proxy server box in the internet connections tab keeps getting checked. I am unsure at how that happens since I am the only one who uses this computer. Is there a program/ virus or something that would check that? Is there a better dial-up company than dockpoint that anyone can vouch for? Lacey
I don't have any idea about dockpoints internet service, so I cant say anything one way or another about them. I would recommend ACN dial up. I just had it set up on one of my clients with their service earlier this week and have talked to them a few times and they have no complaints with it. They offer a standard dial up connection and an accelerated dial up connection. If you are in a Bellsouth service area they also have a DSL service. Their rates are real comparable to the other cheap internet services you hear about (netzero, peoplepc, etc). They also have a local representative that I can put you in contact with if you would like more information. You can either reply here or send me an email at romworks@earthlink.net. I know you are going to ask me why I have an earthlink address instead of using ACN......Well before I heard about ACN I signed up for a year contract with earthlink and it will cost me $125 to cancel it. But as soon as the year is up I am switching over also. On a side note, if Dockpoint says that there is something wrong with your PC, I would be more than happy to take a look at it for you. OK, my fingers are tired now. Hope this helped a little. Randy
Lacey, I am new to the site, but couldn't help but notice you are a dockpoint subscriber. I have used their service for about 3 years now. I went from dialup to high-speed wireless and I love it!!! Origianally I had issues with my computer and they where helpful enough to look at it show me it was broke. I had used aol before I change to dockpoint and my computer was tore up. At first I was like no way it was from aol, but a few minutes at their office and they proved to me it was broke. There are some things we just don't see if we don't no to look for it. Personally it sounds like you computer and you should really explore the options of getting it looked at. Redneck
ISP solution Lacey, You are not the only one with these problems. I have heard countless stories simular to yours. I am not going to trash talk anyone but I can send you to a local company that has a good reputation. On main street there is a new company in town called NCISP. I have known these people for years for they have been doing business in Goldsboro for as long as I can remember. They are expanding fast, extremly friendly and helpful and their prices cannot be beat for the service. Here is their website and phone number. http://www.ncisp.net 919-553-7160
Re: ISP solution I have hooked up 3 of there customers on wireless the past 10 days I would not brag on them at all. I use dockpoint when I travel out of town and not had any problems connecting and I would be the first to complain he is my competitor.
You are obviously one of the few (by looking at this thread). And just because you hooked up a couple of customers doesn't mean that they are not a company to brag about. I've sent them 3-5 customers a day coming from Sprint and AOL. Those guys have millions of customers so to take over a few clients doesn't really say anything at all except that people who know very little about ISPs will do whatever is suggested to them. And that's the problem. These other companies do whatever they can to convince a customer that their service is great and then they will not fix their problems or call them back when they are needed. And I think that is the real issue here. If an ISP would realize that by providing good customer service and good network service they would not need to trash talk their competitors with made-up garbage, they would not have to beg customers to switch to them. Word of mouth is more valuable than any other form of advertising there is. And yet this thread and the other classified posts on this website yet prove this again.
Re: ISP solution I too have had nothing but issues with DockPoint (aka CENSORED). Their service stinks at best and the support is non-existent. I've spoken with many of the other irritated customers of DockPoint that have voiced their frustrations and we all agree that once a better solution can be found, we're outta there. NCISP and its employees are very nice and helpful; unfortunately they can not help me at the present time since I live in the boonies. These guys are up and coming in the area so it won't be long. just hang in there.
I think it is funny that some companies (not going to bash any of them by putting their names on here) try to justify their high prices for internet service by saying that they now have a built in virus protection or spam blocker or whatever. Funny but the last few PC's I have worked on my customers didnt have a virus protection or a spyware blocker on their system because they were told by their ISP's that it was part of the package they are paying for. I think that if some of the big companies spent a little less on advertising and a little more on service, I think everyone would have a happy internet experience. I mean how many AOL cd's do I need to get in the mail, do they think if they send me 1 a week I am going to switch over?????
AOL Cd's... Ha! That's too funny! I say the same thing. I wish they'd just send me a blank CD-R. Now that's something I can use. However, in my experience, some people are destined to find a virus and spyware. Look at BearShare. You install it with the knowledge of "save" being installed. Some people just don't realize it, or don't care until their system is compromised.
Re: AOL Cd's... Sheesh........you make me laugh babe!!!! Thanks for all your "patronage"!! Much love, man....MUCH LOVE!!!!!!!!
