Based on a recommendation I read on the 4042 discussion, I started using Firefox instead of IE. (It was installed months ago by the man I hired to set up my new PC.) Just now, while I was browsing using Firefox, a box popped up asking if I wanted to install it. I assumed that it was an upgrade, and did the install. Turns out it is the same version and I have two icons on my desktop, both for Firefox version 1.0.4, both pointing to target "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" Have I fallen for a hoax and installed something dangerous on my PC?
If you have two shortcuts (icons with a small white arrow usually) on your desktop, you will be fine. If this is the case, you can actually delete one of the shortcuts. The main program / executable is stored in the C:/Program Files/etc folder. Otherwise you should be fine. Congratulations on your switch to Firefox. Now to start exploring the many themes and extensions. That is what I really like about the browser. So many add-on's...so little time. Let us know if you need any more help...otherwise good luck! C
I love Firefox! This beats the heck out of IE which I used for too long. I like the way it remembers passwords etc. I heard about it awhile back on the Clark Howard radio show - he said it was safer than IE, so I thought why not give it a try...
Extraneous icons on desktop Does Firefox place additional icons on my desktop every time I open a new tab? Or if I open it multiple times? (New window) Or is there something else I'm doing to cause this to happen? Also strange, when I try to delete the extraneous icons. For example, if I have 4 icons and I delete one, the properties (including the target) are removed from the remaining 3 icons. Then when I request restore of the deleted icon, there are still only 3 icons on my desktop, but the properties are restored to all three. Could not find anything in Firefox help about this.
