anyone ever come across this error: script error line29 position129 if x = "" then x = getregvalue (2, "software \microsoft\windows\currentversion\uninstall\" % pcode, "displa<script language= vbscript"> can not find anything on microsofts webpage and when i google it the only thing that comes up is a different error concerning outlook 2003 and I have office 2007 on this machine. And I do not use outlook on this machine. I have windows 7 ultimate. and lately the monitor has been giving out while i can still hear sound. And wondering if the above error has anything to do with the screen blanking out
Ok I did the following 1.) Updated AVG, Ad-aware, CCleaner 2.) Removed LAN cable 3.) Rebooted into Safemode 4.) Ran AVG -found nothing 5.) Ran Ad-aware -found and removed 32 items 6.) Ran CCleaner - cleared out 142.00mb 7.) Rebooted Any other suggestions?
You didn't say when, where, or what you are doing when the error appears? If I were to guess, you had a bad install on an update. Are you using "Sonic" for a DVD software? Click on it and do an update. It may be a Win Update that went bad? Go to remove programs, and remove the last update. Reboot and do a Win update. _________________________________ "And wondering if the above error has anything to do with the screen blanking out" Laptop or desktop? If desktop: LCD or CRT? Onboard video or Video card? DVI or VGA?
a three year old Dell XPS420 desktop with NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS the hard drive crashed last February (one month out of warranty) Bought a WD1.5 Tb hd and upped it from MS Vista to Windows 7 ultimate (32bit) I have put the latest video driver but the problems were happening before I updated the driver. Losing the video is sporadicly whether while just sitting there or listening to music or watching videos
Download Astrogrep from http://astrogrep.sourceforge.net/ This will allow you to do a search for text strings within files. Windows 7 doesn't do this anymore (at least not well). Now search for some of the text in the error like "then x = getregvalue " Once you have found the file that is being run, post where its located on the drive. You can also do a registry search for the filename to see what is starting the script, and then you can evaluate whether to rename it or delete it.
Without the original Dell Vista O/S you don't have the dell hardware diagnostic software on the PC, or did you re-load it when you upgraded to 7? I think you can download it from Dells Support site. You'll need the TAG # off the pc case to see if it's available. It will identify a bad video card. When you lose video, does the screen say "Lost Signal" or "No input" or a color test pattern, or is it just blank? If blank is the screen color blue or black? If you get "Lost Signal" or "No input" or a color test pattern, it's the video card or a cable issue. Monitors are hard to diagnose without special equipment. If it's an LCD that's more than 4 years old and had a good amount of use ... it may be the problem. If it's a CRT there's a very high chance it's the problem. The next time you loose video, hotplug another monitor to see if the video comes on the new one. Be careful when hot-plugging video cables to the PC. Use care in getting it aligned well first with the PC Video plug. Misalignment can short the wrong pins with an arc. Picking up a CRT for testing is easy, check Craigs list for free ones.
this is the entire message: script error line29 position129 if x = "" then x = getregvalue (2, "software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\uninstall\" % pcode, "displa<script language= vbscript"> also been having on and off video issues. where I lose video. It goes blank with the 'no signal found' and I get sound. I haven't had it since yesterday since I ran ad aware. Not sure if the video issue and the above error message are part of the same issue or two different issues
If you're seeing "No signal" it's either the video driver, video card, or the cable. Your monitor is working.
