I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, and if it's not feel free to tell me.

Does anyone know of any local and affordable web designers? I have a temporary site up through yahoo site builder, but I am ready for a more professional look.

    Thanks

Numerous people on here would be willing. Out of a sense of fairness I would start with http://appcomm.com/html/site_development.html as he provides this fine site. I am pretty certain DevilLock offers those types of services as well as I have been known to assist people in those areas.

    Thanks for the reply.

And if anyone else has links to an online portfolio I'd love to see.

Ditto what Ken says. You want to make sure you have control and do not have a static site.

Which CMS apps do you use? prefer?

I am a Software Engineer that specializes in machine automation and robotics. Lately I have found myself being dragged kicking and screaming into web design. I have extensive DB experience from previous projects that included data management and storage, but I've still got to familiarize myself with all of the web languages.

I used Joomla for my family site with a SMF bridge to integrate forum capability. I even developed a couple of custom templates so the individual apps would appear as much alike as possible.

Personally I prefer notepad myself (or vi, if I'm stuck on a Linux machine).
