Just curious as to what you are going to be using it for???

I would put it below the cdrom since you might be sitting a cup in it. If it was on top it might prevent you from opening the CDROM unless you take the cup out, and wouldnt that defeat the purpose?

I have 4, 5 inch drive bays so I guess i'll put it on the bottom

Well I guess it would be better then using the cdrom.

Perhaps I will start selling them. Knowing that people are sloppy there are bound to be accidents!!!!!!

    Good business.

Do you really want to put a cup of coffee that close to your PC???? If you mount it anywhere your going to have that cigarette lighter heating up to well over 300 degrees just a fraction of an inch away from either your CD, floppy drive or even worse your hard drive?? Can you say "Chernobyl"???

As Rom said, good business chances for us ...lol. Hey if you want that installed in a laptop let me know.

You may want this as an alternative?

Oh , I forgot ... what size is your power supply, that cigarette lighter is going to suck the life out of it every time you push it in.

Well yes...doesn't everyone? In 20 years on these infernal things I've never spilled a drop in one :D

The lighter can't possibly get that hot. I'll test it out though. With 7 drive bays in my latest project I should be able to keep em far enough away from each other.

Sorry guys, I do my own repairs and builds...have been doing it for over 15 yrs.

    I LOVE this!!

With 7 bays you will definitely be far enough away if it never fails.

If you've been messing with PC's for 15 years you should know that Power is the base for many problems in PC's. More so now than ever before because of it's intricate nature to the system boards. The efficiency of all PC power supplies is an industry standard of 70%. That lighter requires 12V@6.5 Amps. http://www.thermaltake.com/accessories/xray.htm

Most 500w supplies have a max 12V Watts draw listed on them, and, unless you spent over $100 on your PS, it's max draw is less than 350W on the +12V side. It's max Amp is around 28. Your going to ask the power supply for 25% of it's amps and 18% of its Watts on the +12v line when you push that lighter in. Add up all the units in your PC and see what you get. http://www.adecy.com/psu/

They were smart enough not to add "cigarette lighter" in the calc so you'll have to add its 78w draw. Your either pretty darn close to maximum or over?

Something else you may want to consider. If the mechanical thermostat in the lighter fails and it does not pop out, the temperature can get to 450F. That's enough to melt the housing and anything near it to the point of combustion. That lighter is not "fused" for heat tollerances or amps. If it blows, your power supply blows along with anything else on the same 12v line, if it's linked and not dedicated.

If you read the add on the unit it says "LAN partier". These are people with mega coolers, power supplies and case rigs that are built for this type of product. This is a "Modders" product not an every day PC user product.
