Shopping online for an above ground winter pool cover. Since some of my pools buddies are online now, what do you think of these? http://www.poolcenter.com/winter_pool_covers_tundra.htm
Boo!!! I don't want to start thinking about covers!! Although the water has cooled down a good bit since we opened it and can be chilly at times!! When do folks actually put their covers on and say bye bye to summer?
I will be soon, since ours is partially shaded and I am tired of cleaning leaves out of it. Mine is getting chilly. Another week or so and I am done.
they should be fine Cleo, do you have a deck around your pool, just be careful about making sure you have enough clips holding the cover down and i highly recommend the pillows for the middle of the pool under the cover to keep the heavy rains from filling the middle of the cover and possibly pulling it in the pool, it is a real pain in the rear to have to deal with that in freezing weather.
Yeah I have a deck, and enough clips. I forgot about those stupid pillows... They say it is going to be colder this year (Farmer's Almanac) so I better get some of those too. Do you know of a good place to pick them up cheap, or shall I check out this site and google some more?
well there ya go, just be sure to tie them in good so they stay toward the middle and you are all set Also, you can always use some of your big floats, anything to keep the middle of the cover elevated.
We have plenty of these!! Actually, more than could fit in the pool at one time. We could probably make a nice cushion under the whole cover!!
Personally i do not cover my pool anymore, did it a couple of years and ended up costing more in chemicals, etc than just leaving it open during the winter, looks a whole lot prettier too especially with a fountain in the middle but luckily i do not have trees around it that loose their leaves so covering it really is not necessary.
Do you have to cover above ground pools for winter? What are the pro's and con's? This is our first year with a pool so we are still learning. Thanks! Amy
see my post above - i have done both ways and definitely prefer not covering but if you have trees with falling leaves it would probably be wiser to cover.
Hey Kaci, for some reason I was thinking you had an in-ground pool....So if you don't cover it, do you continue to run the pump all year round? We have the salt system and haven't asked the store about winterizing yet. Amy
Wish i had an inground but DH wouldn't go for it:lol: As for running the pump, i will go out and turn it on if the weather is gonna freeze overnight or maybe for a couple hours once a week and that is about it - fortunately because we do not have the heat of the day your chemicals last a lot longer since the sun is not burning them off, i check the chemicals about once a month expecially if we have had rain and might add a pound of chlorine once a month if needed or some PH (with salt i guess you probably won't even have to do that). Saves a lot of money since you are not draining down and having to add all the start up chemicals in the summer or closing chemicals.
