Claritin isnt enough for us either, we take sudafed too, this time of year. I snort some simply saline twice a day too.

how old is he? I think if they are over 8 they can take regular Claritin (and I buy the Walmart, CVS, Lowes Foodlion brand, its way way cheaper)....

any antihistamine is gonna make him a bit drowsy. I used to give 1/2 doses during the day and full dose later on in the evening.
