My niece had to bring tennis balls to put on her chair legs at the bottom so the floor did not get scratched. My brother said everyone had them on the list that year. I thought that was the stupidest thing I had ever heard . He said she had to have 8 ( I think ) .

nsamemaom22: tassy is correct about LEO - Law Enforcement Officer acronym and the sticker being representative of an LEO or their family member.

The Thin Blue Line was originated as a memorial for fallen LEO's in the line of duty.

Non-LEO's have gotten hold of these so it's not always a guarantee who's in the vehicle.

A red on black sticker represents Firefighters.

Same thing I went through last year. I was sending paper all year long and pencils just to find out it was for eveyone. I think supply list have alot to do with what kind of teacher you get.

Ya'll bought all the Kleenex! Tried to get some Sat at Wally World, not a box to be had! So I told the teacher this morning I was not able to fulfill that particular request, she said not to worry about it, she had plenty!
But that she'd probably need more later in the year, so I'll send some then. I was stressing over some Kleenex, LOL!

Here's what I wish they would do and I'd feel a lot better about it.

The list should look something like this:

Items your child needs in order to be a productive member of this class are:
    blah
    blah
    blah

Items that this classroom needs in order to be productive are: (note, although these items are no required, if each parent could pick up one or two items each, I won't have to buy them out of my own pocket to teach your kids, thanks!)
    blah
    blah
    blah

Actually I would prefer a note from school along these lines:

    Parents of Johnston County Students:

As of this year, we will be using the tax money you have generously given under threat of prison, as well as the lottery proceeds that were promised by Governor Easley, to buy the supplies your student(s) need for school. This includes pencils, pens, paper, and other school supplies each teacher needs in order to fulfil his/her teaching criteria.

    Go Clif!

    I am totally with Clif!

They raise our taxes every year for the schools.

They implemented the Lottery for our schools.

So.................... where has all the money gone?????

Hey quick question, I don't have any kids in school yet (they are only 2 and 1) but what are these white dry erase boards for that they need to bring erasers for?

    Don't they still use chalkboards???

Heaven know how long the list will be in 3 years!!

My kids are in the 5th grade and I have never had to buy dry erase markers or anything like that. It 100% depends on the teacher as to what kind of supply list you get. If you start shopping now, you'll be good to go in 3 years.:-D

In the spirit of that local radio guy (can't think of his name)...

When I was a kid, we went to school barefoot in an old, rundown building with no A/C in 110 degree heat and no fans or even open windows and you know what? "WE LIKED IT!"

We didn't have fancy pens and pencils or notebooks with cute pictures on them. We wrote with one pencil until it was a nub and used the front and back of all our simple notebook paper and "WE LIKED IT!"

j/k (but really, we didn't have air and it was in South GA. Hot as heck there. The school finally got air the year AFTER I graduated:evil: )

I figure in a few years the list will include: please send a desk and chair for each class your student has...since we relize not every family can afford this you may purchase one desk and chair and add wheels. your student will need to move the desk from class to class.

Also, please send a 5 gallon minimum can of gas...

    cute

DH always got such a kick out of the commercial where the dad is dancing through the isles of Staples tossing school supplies in the buggy while his kids are dragging along all sad behind him.

Don't quite understand that for him. Didn't you say you home-schooled?

Good memory Frogger;) Yeah, but he still just thinks it's funny that the Dad is dancing down the isles...and then the kids faces - too funny. DH loves our kids very much & enjoys spending time with them and so do I. I'm really thankful that we don't have to go and buy a ton of school supplies for all our kids every year. Surprising how much you can get done with just the basics. ;)
